Tiger treats is a new column on the Lady Tiger blog which will feature products and services one can purchase to benefit a good cause. Today’s Tiger Treat are adorable little finger puppets handmade in Peru.
Peru Puppets was founded by a nun, sister Kristine who was working with a social service organization called AMURT in Lima, Peru. Sister Kristine noticed that there were many talented yet disadvantaged women living in Peru, many of whom sustained themselves and their families on less than $1.25 a day! Sister Kristine put together 2 workshops to employ these women and overpaid them so that they didn’t have to depend on anyone for help. The result: adorable, handmade and happy puppets. You can purchase the puppets individually or buy them in bulk. Either way your money is going to a great cause. I bought my finger puppet in Prescott, AZ at a whole-foods type place called New Frontier’s. I guess it’s obvious which one is was:
Each puppet is handmade and unique so no two look alike. That’s what adds to the charm, in my opinion. Here’s a little commercial featuring the finger puppets on YouTube:
