Thrift Score?

I have a question to propose to all you fashionistas out there: are vintage reproductions of designer goods cool? I say yes because back in the 80’s no one made knock-offs better than China – Hong Kong specifically.

We all know that parts of Asia are notorious for the import of knock-offs. But these modern replicas are no where near as cool as their vintage counterparts. Don’t ask me why. The materials used on the old bags – as well as the new – are deplorable when you compare them to the real thing. Obviously everyone wants the real thing but when I find these bags in thrift stores – I pick them up – along with other vintage-fake designer goods. To me, old-school is always endearing – whether real or plastic.

What do you think?

Right now there is very limited copyright protection for fashion designers, and it’s never easy for small companies. It costs money to file your designs and to pursue the copycats so we felt totally helpless at first, but our community has been really supportive so far and we are confident in our lawyers. It’s because of copycats that there are some new fashion copyright bills in the works which we hope will benefit designers whether they are just starting out or working for large companies.
